The days about the famous Pitti Men Fashion Week are the only moments when Florence in Italy becomes the ideal setting for events of all kinds, improvising an occasion race between the curious and/or most glamourous party.
Everything usually begins on Monday evening with the celebration of the publishing house Mondadori – on the old Leopolda Station – dedicated to films that have shaped the history of fashion, but since Tuesday 15 (today) the big parties started, in the really sense of the word.
From the 3.30pm already begins the first DJ set at the Fortezza of Florence – the Convention Centre where usually Pitti Uomo runs – sponsored by Alpha delta Phi brand and then from the rebirth Guru Company - after the bankrupt of the former owner Matteo Cambi - which combines the sound of console with the projection of images arriving from the National Geographic.
In the evening CP Company presents the guitarist Maurizio Solieri’s perfomance. In the same time you can go to have a drink into the Erede Chiarini’s shop in Via Roma, where it is served on the flowered terrace.
The king of vintage A.N.G.E.L.O. proposes drinks in the store in Via dei Cimatori, unlike the less glamourous and more cultural Le Coq Sportif, which sponsors the exhibition of the cycling museum of photography.
After that, if you are so lucky to have an invite in your hands, there is the very alluring dinner from Brunello Cuccinelli – he personally sent invite – in San Casciano location just in the garden of Villa Le Corti a very historical building in the Florence area. Another super exclusive dinner for tonight is the one organized from Everlast, which chosen as location, the amazing Palazzo Strozzi.
Tomorrow there is an endless array of cocktails, which begins to 4.30pm with G-star at the Fortezza of Florence, then continues with British GQ to the Hotel Art Gallery, Vintage 55 to Gerard Loft, Serge Blanco on the Arno river and Gilli in the Tosinghi street where is open the new flagship store.
That’s not all off course, the best begins at 8:30pm with “A carte blanche named Opium”, organized by Pitti W with the designer Haider Ackermann at Palazzo Corsini, while at 11.00pm Roger Taylor of Duran Duran will be in console at the 48th “The Other Man party” that will take life in Signa, one of the best area in Villa Castelletti.
Thursday will be the last night. Two events are scheduled: the opening of “Between Art and Life,” from Andrea Zittel at the Galleria del Costume Palazzo Pitti and last but not least, the presentation of the menswear Spring Summer 2011 collection by Jil Sander – his first show in Florence – in the framework of the former station Leopolda.
For Your stay, we suggest to book one of our Hotels located in the centre of Florence: Grand Hotel, The Excelsior Hotel, J.K. Plce Hotel and Tornabuoni Suites, and use a cab or walk to reach the events. The location where Pitti take place is not really too far from the Ponte Vecchio but we strongly suggest to take always a cab especially if your lady have – off course – shoes with high heels
Last, don’t forget to understand that find the right way in Florence is a nightmare even for a Gps station, so leave your car at the hotel parking. Unfortunately the weather for this three days will seem to be not really good in Florence. So we suggest a foulard or a light jacket with you also.
Enjoy your stay in Florence!
Portofino World, a world apart.
