Santa Margherita Ligure

Santa Margherita Ligure, Italian Riviera

Santa Margherita Ligure is a calm town on sea between Rapallo and Portofino on the Riviera Ligure di Levante.

Famous at the time of the “Dolce Vita”, it was a destination favoured by famous people between the 60s and the 70s. It was a place where to have fun during the 80s and 90s, especially because of the Covo di Nord Est, one of Europe’s most famous clubs.

Today it is a location which relies on its fantastic views, very calm, with warm weather all year long. We suggest visiting it if you want to relax, take nice walks, find yourselves again and for the whole family. There is no traffic, the town centre is almost entirely pedestrians only, there are supermarkets and you may still find “botteghe” where you’ll be able to taste local foods and products.

During the summer season, between July and August, there tend to be lots of people in the Piazzetta, especially young people ranging from 14 to 25 years of age.

We do not suggest Santa Margherita Ligure for singles, crazy-nights lovers, and trend fanatics. Night life usually ends around 1 am and there is only one club at Paraggi which we only suggest visiting on Saturday nights. Santa Margherita Ligure is perfect for relaxing, enjoying the sea especially on the beaches after the Covo di Nord Est, now closed, and in Paraggi.

Hotels: you can find and book Hotels here. We suggest the Lido Palace Hotel, it’s very central.

Shopping: there are various famous brands with single-brand boutiques, for fish cusine and to enjoy the calm far away from confusion or traffic.

Santa Margherita Ligure, it can reached from the motorway exiting at Rapallo, alternatively there is the train station. The closest airport is Genova’s Cristoforo Colombo (GOA), Pisa’s, Nice’s and Milan’s. Genova is served by British Ariways,Lufthansa, Alitalia and Airfrance. Available low-cost airlines are Ryanair, MyAirand AirOne.

In all these airports, we provide transfer service with Mercedes E/S Class and Mini Van Opel Vivaro (8 seats) with driver on your exit gate, until your hotel or flat.

In Santa Margherita Ligure there are fee parking spaces, sport fields, and some gyms. We suggest walking along the beach until Paraggi, especially around dusk. You will immediately feel better.

Enjoy this town in order to find your true self. You’ll wake up late in the morning, read the newspaper, take a walk, swim, visit the port around 5 in the evening, to the fish market to see what’s been fished, prepare yourself for dinner – usually women are not dressed elegantly – and rest.

You may also want to jog a little during the late hours of the afternoon, from Santa Margherita Ligure until Paraggi’s Castle – about 4 km round trip –there is a pavement right next to the sea. You’ll will feel well just by breathing the fresh air, fronting a fantastic coast view.

Jogging from Portofino to Santa Margherita Ligure

There is also a dog-only beach in Santa Margherita Ligure. It is found up ahead the Regina Elena Hotel towards Portofino. There is fresh water available. All other beaches are dogs free.

If you want to relax, rest, walk or bike around, jog, if you need all this, you’re in the right place.

We do not suggest staying more than one night in Santa Margherita Ligure in the period that goes from October to April. If there weather is nice, there will usually be people during weekends.

You can see 3D Panorama here.
